napa, oakland, half moon bay all hit 60. san jose topped out at 58. concord, san francisco, 57 degrees for a high today. now that the front is through, cbs 5 hi-def doppler is not picking up any showers, only the slightest chance of a shower overnight tonight but how about what's going on in the mountains? couple of new feet of snow over the weekend, two to four more inches of new snow this evening. winter storm warning continues for the western slopes of the sierra. travel pretty rough on highway 50 and 80. wind gusts to 35 miles per hour. a lot more snow coming up later this week. we had this upper level low pressure area move through that friday ushering in the winter type feel highs in the low 50s over the weekend. now a cold front moved through so we'll be dry the next couple of days and chilly especially tomorrow night into wednesday morning. some of you will be down near freezing perhaps even the upper 20s in our inland valleys so the winter item number one on the list is the cold. we get that tomorrow and wednesday. but we will be mainly dry.

santa rosa 33, napa down to 33 tonight. you'll start off tomorrow morning in the mid-30s for concord and livermore and fremont, even san jose dropping to 37 degrees tonight. hi-def doppler is going to take you down to the south bay because that's the only area where we're seeing showers right now along 280, highway 17, 85, towards los gatos, campbell and san jose and santa clara. this pattern change shows no sign of going away all the way until new year's eve. we have a dip in the jet stream off the california coastline almost the exact opposite of what we have in the summer where there is a big ridge of high pressure and the source of our air is coming down from places like alaska. it's wrapping around this low pressure system and feeding in cold, unstable air. we are not looking at big rainmakers, nothing like three weeks ago. just more cold air is reinforced every day keeping highs only in the 50s and we'll get a good shot of rain about two out of every three days. scattered showers highs only in the 50s for some of you

mid-50s in napa. what a difference a day made today. currently redwood city sporting 55. the winds have been generally out of the west and southwest up to 10 to 13 miles per hour. san jose now at 54. bottoming out tonight into the 40s and in fact not as cold tonight overnight due to the blanket of increasing cloud cover. okay, so here we go. san jose, currently with the cloud cover, you will expect the rain to develop by midnight tonight. meanwhile it looks like spotty showers for everybody through our midweek forecast on wednesday, and then a very active 10-day forecast that's still straight ahead with the pinpoint outlook but this right here, area of low pressure pretty impressive. notice what happened, last two hours splitting in half, behind it a pool of cool air mass. first rain develops, wind up to 15, 20 miles per hour. then also the difference with the cooler temperatures. futurecast, here comes the rain and again, just in the last two hours, have we seen this system begin to split apart. so this is going to move through very, very rapidly. by midnight tonight, in
